1 - What novelty does QUADERNO bring in the field of MIDI software ? QUADERNO offers composition functions, unique and impossible to find on other Midi software, such as realising harmonic structures from improvisations, from chord grids and from an very sophisticated musical analysis. Numerous functions for transforming and manipulating musical events allow a very intuitive and rapide way of composing complex works.

2 - What public is QUADERNO meant for ? First, for professional composers who want a software to stimulate their creation process by giving a lot of creative solutions. Also, for all musicians who work with MIDI and who want a very powerful and convivial solution to manipulate a lot of expanders and synthetisers, above all on stage. Then for all musicians who want to discover in an educational and playful way the process of musical composition.

3 - Can QUADERNO generate music without recording by an external instrument or step by step ? Yes and it is a distinctive feature of this software. QUADERNO can generate music in different ways: - On the main screen, you can "play" with the mouse and create musical movements that you could'nt realise otherwise. - With the "Composer" which is a powerful tool to generate and modelise all kinds of music, even in quarter tones thanks to a precise generation of the Midi controlers. - With the "Formula", a micro programming langage allowing you to modelise all types of musical movements.

4 - Can QUADERNO be used on stage ? Yes QUADERNO can allow musican to manage impressive musical effect in realtime. For example the musician can command the playing of 16 instruments at the same time, each one been able to genarate powerful Midi effects (complex arpegiator, midi echoes, repeat, readind of patterns started by the playing on stage). Realtime also allows several musicians to interact on the playing of other musicians (up to 16 independant musicians) in a very playful and complex way.

5 - In what format does QUADERNO communicate with the other software on the market ? With MIDI-FILE 1.0 format.

6 - Can standard GM and XG be used ? Yes Quaderno is compatible with GM and XG format, ( see mapping of program change DB50.qmp) it can have access to the high and low banks used by XG. It can also send sysex concerning this format. ( XG ON, effect, multipart )

7 - Can you create your own Scales in QUADERNO ? Yes you can very easily programm your own scales up to 1000 available together (500 scales are already available in the software).

8 - Can QUADERNO send sysex ? Yes Quaderno can send sysex, which you can save in an editing box. It also recognizes then in the MIDI FILE ( *.mid ) and in the format of sysex file (*.syx ). So far Quaderno cannot request sysex, but it will certainly be possible in coming versions.

9 - Can you create your own program change mapping in QUADERNO ? Yes, you just need a text editor (ASCII ) . Write the name of program change respecting the syntax of sound description, high banks, low banks, program change (except on some old synthesizers such as SY77). You must save this file with the extension *.qmp, and place it in Quaderno\System\Mapping\ and finally assign it in Quaderno (on one or several midi channels) with the editing box of MIDI mapping (Space SETUP MIDI, then mapping ).

10 - Does QUADERNO manage Audio ? Not at present, but if Quaderno uses audio in the future, it will do so with a purpose of creativity and invention for it is the basic philosophy of this software.
